Dynatec Blank Firing airsoft grenade
74There’s a whole host of airsoft grenades to choose from, but my favourite by a long way, is the dynatec blank firing airsoft grenade.
The dynatec is an incredibly durable and reusable grenade that fires 9mm blank shells (or 12mm with an adapter) to create a loud bang that will eliminate all players within a 3 metre area around it (subject to site rules).
Introduction
A Dynatec airsoft grenade is a small cylinder just larger than your hand which houses a sprung pin firing 9mm or 12mm blank ammunition to create a loud bang. With only one moving part, Dynatec’s are incredibly robust and durable and as any engineer will tell you, the fewer parts a device has, the less there is to go wrong.
With over 3 years of use, several hundreds bangs and no repairs later, I can safely say that Dyntatec’s are incredibly well built.
Reloading
The first thing to do when reloading a Dynatec is unscrew and remove the metal top. This will expose the pin which points out of a metal plate with a hole in the middle. All Dynatec’s are supplied with a loading tool which is then placed on top of the pin and pushed down until the pressure on the charging handle is released.
The charging handle is then held down while the safety pin is inserted.
A 9mm or 12mm blank is then inserted into the metal top and the top screwed on. This will place the blank on the metal plate and above the hole where the firing pin will protrude when the safety pin is removed.
The loading process takes roughly 30 seconds in total. This may seem like a long time, but with practice, a Dynatec can be reloaded much faster than that. It’s also worth considering the alternatives – a bb grenade would require the player to pour bb’s into a cavity which can take a very long time. Likewise, a gas grenade would require the player to carry a gas bottle and may take even longer if disposable valves or seals require replacingt between each throw.
Costs
A Dynatec will typically set you back around $100. There’s no doubt that that’s a fair amount of money, but let’s look at the long term cost. A box of 50 9mm blank shells will only cost you around $20 - $25 – that’s just 50 cents a throw and by far the lowest per throw cost of any airsoft grenade out there.
That low throw cost has other advantages too – with a lower cost you’re much more likely to throw a Dynatec in a situation where you wouldn’t throw a more expensive grenade. For example, if you were attacking a base with a player behind a wall that would require a very good grenade throw, you wouldn’t bother trying if the throw costed $6. But for 50 cents, you’ll definitely have a go – and you never know, that successful throw may decide the game.
Traps
Dynatec’s can be useful for more than just throwing – they can also make very effective traps. Why not try putting your Dynatec on top of a door, tied to an ammo crate, hidden under a pile of twigs or even strapped to a hostage? All of these applications can give you valuable piece of mind when attacking or defending and make an excellent warning if players get too close.
Conclusion
Of all my airsoft equipment the Dynatec is certainly my favourite. It can really change the tide of games – they’re incredibly effective at clearing rooms indoors or moving targets out of cover so you can shoot them. For a tiny cost per throw, you can have a significant advantage over your competitors - an advantage that they won’t see coming – and won’t forget.

It's very difficult to please any airsofter but there's always been one gun that has been a source of fun and strategic advantage for me, and that's the MP5.
